Eligible to Bill? Cursing out the insurance companies have a joint in my work. From all my meetings and conferences with medical staff always seems to be the underlying theme of how can I make more money as professionals? The answer is not simple, however, the answer lies in a fundamental ideals, discipline. Discipline is often overlooked in health care. Another ideal that compliments discipline is the preparation, all healthcare providers know that ideal very well because if they had they would never achieve a role as a supplier.

Most providers believe that getting paid by insurance companies comes from a good billing system, billing personnel or billing companies. While this strongly affects your income, there is a very important part of your practice or clinic that will impact your bottom line. Jurisdiction or in a broader sense insets are the key to success in health care. It is the admissions process that will determine whether you will be paid quickly or payable in 6 months or not at all. Most of the methods and some clinics are not able to perform this important task at all and that is the main cause of most of the denials. In our company we have a rule called the 30:60 rule, that rule provides that the 30 seconds you take to verify eligibility will save 60 minute follow-up work in the future. Some of you may say that there is no way it only takes 30 seconds to carry out qualifying, and you can have the  in some cases, however, if you exploit the technology, that the average time to carry out eligible only about 30 seconds per patient.

This is where discipline comes in, it is very easy to say that your staff, we need to check the n to every patient who comes in here, that’s another thing to actually check each patient including your patients have come in 30 years. It is very easy for your staff to become lazy or trapped in the hectic day to day running of a business or hospital, yet it is reaching got to be done to ensure that you get paid for each service your.

Below are some useful ideas in order to maintain this very important function: – investing in technology to control pc via electronic mail, Internet or automated telephone system. Most good software vendors and billing companies offer this service. – Designate a special time of day (usually a down time) where one person is responsible for verifying eligibility for all following today’s patients. You should allow some time for that person, depending on your average patient chart. – Ensure that more than one person in your office is trained in this job. You can also alternate the job between 2 people to ensure they are up to date with the ever-changing policies. – Probably the most important tip is to create a written policy and procedures that describe how to do this. Now you must ask yourself, what right have you to bill?
